General Antonio López de Santa Anna (1794 - 1874). Une des principales figures de l'indépendance du Mexique comme militaire et comme homme d'état (11 mandats présidentiels).
Cette chanson daterait de la guerre de 1846-48 et aurait été interprétée par des baleiniers anglais lors de leur retour à New Bedford après avoir combattu à ses côtés.
C'est généralement une chanson de cabestan, les parties en italique sont les parties à répondre.
Cette chanson a été transcrite en français par Jacques Plante et interprétée par Hugues Aufray sous le nom de Santiano.
